Republic of CongoOverview
The Congo Exploration program targets Cu-Pb-Zn mineralization in the Upper Proterozoic rocks of southeastern Congo. The major known CuPbZn deposits in Congo include Mindouli, Boko Songo, Mfouati and Yanga-Koubenza. Production from the known deposits is poorly documented but Yanga-Koubanza, one of the larger ore bodies in the district contains a historic resources of 5.5 Mt@1.9% Cu, 7% Zn, 8% Pb. Sanu has secured the eastern on-strike extensions of these deposits and has embarked on an extensive soil sampling program.
Location
The Cu-Pb-Zn deposits of the Republic of the Congo lie along the southern border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Reneville prospect lies only about 60 km NW of Brazzaville and is covered by forest and grassland. The Pieme prospect lies about 10 km N of the Mindouli mine.
Ownership
Sanu has been granted two Prospecting Licenses which cover the Reneville and Pieme prospects and a number of occurrences in between. Once assay data from the initial phase of soil sampling, Sanu will apply for an exclusive Exploration License over these areas.
Geology/Mineralization
Upper Proterozoic limestone, dolomite, and shale of the Niari Syncline host the majority of the Cu-Pb-Zn deposits of the Congo; most of the deposits lie along or adjacent to faults and close to an unconformity with the overlying M'Poika arkose-shale sequence. The general style of mineralization is similar to that seen in Anvil Mining's Dikulushi deposit (~2.95 Mt @ 7% Cu). The style of mineralization discovered to date suggest potential for multiple relatively small but very high grade polymetallic ore bodies Sanu's target is multiple mineralized bodies to serve a central concentration facility. This is similar to the way that many Mississippi Valley Type districts such as Pine Point in Canada were developed.
The Reneville prospect lies in the extreme eastern end of the belt, on strike with the Mindouli-Mpassa district. Observed copper oxide mineralization occurs in limestones, dolomites, and gossanous material adjacent to a fault and immediately below a sandstone horizon thought to be equivalent to the M'Poika arkose-shale sequence. Evidence of mineralization extends over 1km in strike, and the prospective horizon extends over 2km in the immediate Reneville area.
The Pieme prospect also lies on strike with the Mindouli Mpassa district, but is much closer to the Mindouli mine. Within the prospect area, the limestone-shale sequence hosts several gossans.
A number of occurrences lie between Pieme and Reneville. These occurrences are hosted entirely by the shale-limestone sequence. Most of these occurrences appear to lie close to faults, which may have had some influence on the mineralization.
Exploration
Sanu's 2008 exploration program will attempt to define extensions of known prospects by soil sampling, rock chip sampling and geologic mapping. Sanu feels that systematic soil sampling will allow Sanu to find extensions of know mineralization that may have been overlooked by previous mapping and sampling campaigns.
Activity Update
To date, Sanu has collected approximately 3000 soil samples from the Reneville prospect, the area to the west of the Reneville prospect, and over the Pieme prospect. Assay results are pending.
